This is where I hang out with my husband and son and whoever else can come up. It is the place I get the most inspiration and relaxation. We go up as many weekends as we can and are looking forward to some extended vacations. We live in a suburb of Detroit so it is nice to get away up north.
I have a degree in Accounting and worked in that field up until my first child was born. Since then I have been able to pursue things that I really have a passion for. Homemaking, crafting and decorating are top on my list. I have learned over the years to decorate on a budget by shopping deals and copying designer looks.
In 1993, I got my builders license so that I would be equipped when we built a new home, acting as our own general contractors. I had another, much more hands on, opportunity with a building project when we built our own cabin in 2010. This time we did almost all of the work ourselves...and a lot of help from some great friends! I designed the cabin and I must say I was amazed when it actually came together just as planned!
For a period of a couple of years, I ran a craft business. My husband and I made birch lamps, shades, rustic furniture and accessories. We traveled throughout the state of Michigan selling at arts and craft fairs and a couple of rustic interior stores. When we moved in 2003 for my husbands job, we gave up this business. I still like to make crafts for ourselves and ended up starting Rustic Crafts website in November, 2010. In March, 2011 I expanded to include this blog.
When I'm not writing for Rustic Crafts or my blog, I love to read, canoe, cross country ski, jazzercise, cook, decorate and of course do crafts. My kids are three wonderful blessings. Our oldest daughter also lives in Michigan, works for the same company as my husband and is just twenty minutes away. Our adventuresome middle daughter lives in New York City and works for M magazine and our son is still in high school. Oh, and we have a cat named Kirby who thinks he's a dog.
My faith is very important to me and I am thankful for God's leading in my life. I enjoy my time with friends and am happy with all of the wonderful people that I have met through social networking and my website and I hope to meet even more through this blog.
